08 July 2014

Fierce intermittent clashes have been underway in various parts of Ramadi, mostly in the western sector of the city. Mortar rounds and other explosives are still targeting the HQ of the 8th Brigade. Reliable sources indicate that the gunmen have widened their presence in the city and in the countryside along the Euphrates River towards Fallujah.

In Fallujah, prolonged shelling of many of the city's residential districts, as well as in Al-Garma and the areas between the town and the city, has killed 4 people and wounded at least 11, including women and children. The southern and southwestern sectors of the city were also the scenes of intermittent clashes. The commander of the 6th Division was killed in the action.

In Anbar's western regions, the main towns are still under the gunmen's control. Areas along the border between Anbar and Nineveh governorates and in the Iraqi-Syrian border areas came under bombardment. The general consensus on the ground is that it is the gunmen who are in control.
